Fysak Melkeplassen – A Multiuse Center for Youth in the Heart of Bergen

OVERVIEW

Surrounded by snow-covered streets and dramatic Nordic skies, this vibrant project stands as a beacon of energy and inclusion for the youth of Bergen. Fysak Melkeplassen is not just a building—it’s a dynamic space designed to inspire movement, creativity, and connection among children and teenagers.

Transformed from a disused municipal facility into a cutting-edge sports and activity center, the building now houses a wide range of spaces tailored for exploration and play. Inside, you’ll find a parkour area with handcrafted wooden elements and steel bars, a soft-mat gymnastics floor bathed in natural light, climbing walls for all skill levels, and breakout zones for rest and social interaction.

The architecture embraces contrasts: industrial yet warm, functional yet playful. Polycarbonate panels bring in diffused light throughout the day, while black shingle cladding anchors the structure firmly in its landscape. Every space was designed with purpose—to welcome, to excite, and to offer a safe environment where movement and imagination know no bounds.

Fysak is more than a sports hall. It’s a place where kids climb, jump, roll, laugh, and grow together—no matter the weather outside.
